Our headquarters are located in Cheltenham, Melbourne, with four state offices in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Janome Australia also looks after operations in New Zealand. Janome sewing machines are being sold through specialist retailers and major department stores throughout Australia, with over 50% of market share. We employ over 3,500 people, and have operations in over 100 countries worldwide.

On December 16th, 2019, Janome celebrated the production of its 70 millionth sewing machine, a crowning achievement that represents a rich history and a world-renowned reputation for excellence. Janome History

1921

Janome, originally PINE Sewing Machine Factory, was founded on October 16, 1921 in Japan. Founder and sewing manufacturing pioneer Yosaku Ose began using an unprecedented round metal bobbin system instead of the traditional long shuttle system.

1935

The name “Janome” was adopted in 1935 and means “Snake Eyes”, which resembles the bobbin that earned the company its name and established it as a leader in the Sewing Machine Industry. Since those early days Janome has always strived to bring the latest technology and innovation to home users.

1964

In 1964 Janome established an integrated sewing machine research laboratory in Tokyo. Since its establishment, a large number of superior sewing machines incorporating sophisticated computer control technology have been developed.

1971

In 1971, celebrating its 50th birthday, Janome delivered another innovation to the market: the first ZZ sewing machine with automatic and unique functions.

1990

The Memory Craft 8000 was released, being the first home-use computer sewing machine with professional style embroidery features.

2000

The Memory Craft 10000 was the first allowing PC connectivity with a USB cable connection.

2003

Another industry first with the introduction of the Memory Craft 300E. A home-use embroidery only machine with built-in designs, editing capability and the ability to read and write to a PC Flash Card. The same year we introduced the Memory Craft 6500P. Our first long arm quilting model with 9 inches of work area to the right of the needle.

2005

The Memory Craft 11000 was released, top-of-the-line embroidery sewing machine with PC direct link connectivity. Has a USB port and reads designs directly from a USB Key.

2006

The Memory Craft 6600P, a flat-bed machine with a metal body, is the first model to incorporate Janome’s AcuFeed System (dual feed) built-in upper feed dog system.

2010

Janome leads the industry, producing a 280mm (11’’) long-arm quilting machine, the Horizon Memory Craft 7700QCP. Automatic needle plate converter – able to convert standard needle plate into a straight stitch needle plate; and an Extra wide table with specialised cloth guide.

2011

Horizon Memory Craft 12000 introduced, detachable embroidery unit, AcuFeed Flex system (removable dual feed) plus single AcuFeed Flex. Features real time PC connectivity, exclusive software program – Horizon Link incorporating stitch composer. Plus, 9mm stitches being a Janome first.

2013

The Horizon Memory Craft 15000 was the first domestic sewing machine with WiFi connectivity, embroidery designs transfer via WiFi to the HMC15000 from PC with installed Janome software or an iPad with Janome Apps. The largest full colour high definition screen at 9”; 5 x Embroidery Hoops, 6 Janome iOS APP’s, Horizon Link Suite software and a large quantity of standard feet and accessories.

2014

Skyline S5 is the first model in the Skyline Range. The workspace is square L210mm x W210mm (8¼”x8¼”) and height is 120mm (4.7”), sewing speed up to 1,000 stitch per minute, 9mm decorative and alphabet stitches.

2018

The Air Thread 2000D Professional is our first air thread overlocker and the easiest Janome overlocker to thread. Janome’s push and blow type air threading system is an industry first.

2020

The award winning Continental M7 Professional is the next generation sewing machine. Packed with exciting features including a 7″ LCD colour touch screen with a clock, 400 built-in stitches, and is currently the fastest zig-zag sewing machine at 1300 stitches per minute.
